How to Install the Key2Success Planner on Your reMarkable (Step by Step)
By Branden Bodendorfer | Published July 28, 2026 | Setup & Install
Most people overthink getting a planner onto their reMarkable. It isn't a technical project. It's a five-minute file transfer, and once the PDF lands on your device, every hyperlink, tab, and jump-to-today button already works. If you just picked up a Key2Success planner, or you're still deciding which reMarkable to run it on, this guide walks through the full install, start to finish, on a reMarkable 1, reMarkable 2, Paper Pro, or the new Paper Pure.
Haven't picked an edition yet? Browse the full Key2Success planner lineup for reMarkable first. The install steps below are identical no matter which edition you choose.
Here's the part people get wrong before they even start: they assume they need a reMarkable Connect subscription just to load a PDF. You don't. Connect adds handwriting search and AI-generated summaries, and both are genuinely useful, but neither one is required to run your planner. Installing costs you nothing but wifi and about two minutes.
What you need before you start
You need three things before you touch the upload steps: a reMarkable account that's been connected to wifi at least once, your Key2Success planner download (the ZIP file from your account or order email), and a device. That last part matters less than you'd think.
- A reMarkable 1, reMarkable 2, Paper Pro, Paper Pro Move, or Paper Pure - the planner is the same hyperlinked PDF on all five
- Your Key2Success download, still zipped, saved somewhere you can find it
- A reMarkable account signed in on at least one app or the web portal
- Wifi, at least for the first sync
Every device runs the identical file, so the model you own doesn't change a single step below. If you're still weighing the reMarkable 2 against the newer Paper Pure, our full Paper Pure vs reMarkable 2 comparison breaks down the display, battery, and price differences. One thing worth knowing going in: neither device has a front light, Paper Pure included, so plan on planning near a lamp or a window the same way you would with actual paper.
Download your Key2Success planner files
Getting the file itself takes three steps.
- Log into your Key2Success account, or open your order confirmation email if you checked out as a guest.
- Download the ZIP file for the edition and week-start (Monday or Sunday) you purchased.
- Extract the ZIP on your computer. On Windows, right-click the file and choose Extract All. On a Mac, just double-click it.
Skip that third step and reMarkable will tell you the file isn't supported. That single missed click is the most common install question that lands in Key2Success support, by a wide margin. If you haven't purchased your reMarkable edition yet, you can grab it here before moving on.
Upload via the reMarkable app or desktop app
You have four ways to get the file onto your device, and they all land in the same place.
- Desktop app (Mac or PC): open the reMarkable desktop app, click the Import button at the top of the window, and select your extracted PDF. Or just drag the file straight into the app window.
- iPhone: open the PDF, tap the share icon, and choose Import with reMarkable.
- Android: tap the main menu inside the reMarkable app, choose Import files, and select your PDF. You can also share a file into the app from anywhere on your phone.
- Web, no app needed: sign into my.remarkable.com/myfiles and upload the file directly from your browser.
Once it's uploading, a progress bar and a cloud connection icon track the sync. If a transfer ever stalls, there's a Check Sync option buried in settings that forces it to try again.
The desktop app is the one I point Key2Success customers to by default. It's the fastest of the four, and it's the one where drag-and-drop actually behaves the way you'd expect. The mobile app feels like the obvious choice since your phone is already in your hand, but it's genuinely the slowest of the four ways to get a hyperlinked PDF onto your reMarkable.
Open and pin the planner
Once the sync finishes, open the Key2Success planner from your device's file list. There's no setup screen and no first-run wizard. Every hyperlink, every tab, every jump-to-today button is already live the moment the page loads.
Star or favorite the file so it's the first thing you see when the device wakes up. That one habit saves more time over a year than any other setting on the device. And if you're running this on a Paper Pure, the tap response between tabs is noticeably quicker than on a reMarkable 2, which adds up fast when you're jumping between your daily, weekly, and goal pages all day. That difference, along with battery life and price, is exactly what we cover in the Paper Pure vs reMarkable 2 video.
Set up folders and quick access
Create a dedicated folder for your planner, something like "2027 Planner," separate from any loose PDFs you've imported for reading. Then use favorites or quick sheets so your current daily and monthly pages sit one tap away instead of three or four taps deep in a file tree.
One accuracy note worth flagging here: if you want to search the text inside your handwritten notes later, or generate an AI summary of a meeting page, that requires a reMarkable Connect subscription. It is not required to install or use the Key2Success planner itself, and plenty of users run the full system without ever touching Connect.
Once your planner is organized, the real skill is learning to move through it fast. Our guide to using a hyperlinked digital planner on reMarkable covers exactly that.
Troubleshooting common upload issues
- "File not supported" error: almost always an un-extracted ZIP. Go back, extract it fully, and upload the PDF that comes out of the folder.
- Sync stuck or file never appears: confirm wifi on both the app and the device, then tap Check Sync in settings, or close and reopen the desktop app.
- Hyperlinks don't work once opened: make sure you're opening the file in the native reMarkable reader and not exporting it into a third-party viewer, which can strip the links.
- Wrong device shows up in the app: confirm you're signed into the same reMarkable account on the app and the tablet itself.
A reMarkable that says a file isn't supported almost never has a broken tablet behind it. It has an un-extracted ZIP file.

FAQ
- Do I need a reMarkable Connect subscription to install the Key2Success planner?
- No. Installing and using the Key2Success planner requires no subscription at all. Connect only adds handwriting search and AI-generated summaries, which are optional extras, not requirements for running the planner.
- Can I install the planner on more than one reMarkable device?
- Yes. Because the Key2Success planner is a PDF file, you can transfer it to as many reMarkable devices as you own, with no device limit or DRM restriction.
- Does the planner work on reMarkable 1, reMarkable 2, Paper Pro, and Paper Pure?
- Yes. The planner is a hyperlinked PDF, so it installs and behaves the same way on every reMarkable model, including the newest Paper Pure.
- Why does my reMarkable say the file isn't supported?
- This almost always means the ZIP file wasn't extracted before uploading. Extract it fully on your computer first, then upload the PDF that comes out of the extracted folder.
- How long does it take to install the planner?
- About two minutes from download to opening the file on your device, assuming you're connected to wifi and the ZIP is already extracted.
- Can I reinstall the planner if I get a new reMarkable?
- Yes. Your download is yours to keep, so you can transfer the same file to a new device at any time without repurchasing.
Final thoughts
The install itself will take you less time than reading this guide did. The part that actually matters starts after the file lands on your device: opening it every morning, tapping through to your daily page, and letting the hyperlinks do the navigating so you're not hunting for the right tab. Get the file on the device, pin it, and go.
